SMAART Portable Health Information Kiosk addresses the burden of metabolic syndrome (cluster of risk factors including diabetes, hypertension, obesity and high cholesterol). The touch screen computer platform is interactive, multi-lingual and captures both subjective and objective data. Subjective data includes information related to socio-demographics, clinical, and behavioral risk factors and knowledge, attitudes and practices related to metabolic syndrome. Objective data gathered includes weight, blood pressure and blood sugar using series of medical sensors. An evidence based decision logic helps to generate individual risk profile in the form of a SMAART Health card that is easy to understand and provides tailored feedback based on a cluster of risk factors impacting individual’s overall health, rather than addressing only one risk at a time. The system takes a multifaceted approach to promote self-management among individuals living in diverse urban, and urban slum settings.
