September 27, 2024 | Daily Memphian | Jane Roberts – Ashish Joshi, dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Memphis, is a restless, big thinker. As a physician trained in India, he’s also connected with the inevitable disparities civilization faces living cheek by jowl with pandemic, climate change and war. This week, with the force of his full self, Joshi and his team at the university presented a summit on the need for the discipline of public health to be engaged in diplomacy.
Attendees represented 15 nations, including staff from the United Nations and the World Health Organization, professors, researchers and leaders of the seven regional associations of public health around the world. “I cannot tell you how fulfilling it is that this is happening right here in the city of Memphis,” Joshi said.
